Want to be able to teach everyone? Get ready with DYSPRAXIATHECA.

BRGD SUMMER EDUCATIONAL SERIES: EPISODE 1

With summer often comes a desire to become better at what you do: be it the Sun, exploration during the holidays or a (slightly) slower rhythm in the office. It is a good time to get some inspiration and to learn new skills you will be able to use in your job and shine when everybody is back at the office. This is why we decide to launch a summer series of blog posts to inspire you, helping you develop new skills and knowledge and giving you new resources and toolboxes. As an education professional, chances are you have already faced students with dyspraxia, even if you do not know it as it affects around 6% of the population in Europe. So, if you want to get ready to teach everyone, do read this article.

The one that said that “time flies fast” was not joking. It seems like it was just yesterday that we got to know the project partners during the first meeting in Mons, and now we have a beta version of the Dyspraxiatheca platform to show you! We could not be prouder!

This Erasmus+ project was a bit different from the ones that our main company Logopsycom participates in because it focuses only on one specific learning disorder: dyspraxia. Dyspraxia is a hidden handicap that affects around 6% of European students. It impacts on 4 major skills in schools: reading, writing, arithmetics and organization. The general awareness of public authorities and in the education sector has been improving for the past few years,r . Still, there is a limited access to adapted resources that would be interoperable and connected to the scholarship curriculum, which is still a critical need for concerned individuals.

For this reason, with several organizations from the EU we have created the first large open digital library with the objective to improve the quality of the schooling of dyspraxic pupils or, in other words, to enhance their access, participation and performance within the education system.

On the platform you will find all kinds of resources to support all the stakeholders of the “dyspraxic” education. Practically, we are offering:

  • a library of 500 adapted eBooks of classic European literature (novels, theatre, poetry…)
  • a database of 100 interactive exercises tackling the 4 main topics (reading, writing, arithmetic and organization) and for the 10 scholarship levels targeted.
  • 50 practice sheets to explain how to support and integrate dyspraxic pupils in a classroom
  • 50 model lessons for teachers to make their daily practice easier and to give a better understanding of the way lessons can be adapted.

As our team was responsible for preparation of the practice sheets in particular, here are some teasers of what you can find:

The platform is still under development and we work hard to complete it. To check the beta version visit: www.dyspraxiatheca.eu and let us know what you think!

Save the date!

On October, 18th in Paris the project partners will organize the international conference (157 Boulevard Macdonald, 75019 Paris) where we will spread information about all the intellectual outputs of this project. More information is coming soon!
